UAE Astronaut Returns After 6-Month Space Mission
Emirati astronaut Sultan AlNeyadi made a triumphant return to the UAE on Monday, marking the end of his historic six-month mission in space. During his mission, AlNeyadi achieved several milestones, making him a national hero.
A Landmark Mission
Sultan AlNeyadi’s mission was groundbreaking in many ways. He was not only the first Arab astronaut to embark on a long-term space journey but also the first to complete a spacewalk, a feat that garnered international attention. His journey began on March 2, when he, along with NASA astronauts Stephen Bowen and Woody Hoburg and Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev, launched into space from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida aboard the SpaceX Crew-6.

Upon his arrival at Abu Dhabi airport, Sultan AlNeyadi was greeted with a warm welcome by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, vice president and ruler of Dubai. This reception highlighted the significance of his mission and its importance to the UAE’s space ambitions.
A Hero’s Recovery
After his return to Earth on September 4, AlNeyadi spent time in Florida and Texas for post-mission recovery. During this period, he underwent thorough medical testing, evaluation, and mission debriefs to ensure a smooth transition back to life on Earth.

Sultan AlNeyadi shared his excitement about reuniting with his homeland through social media. In a message on X (formerly Twitter), he expressed his anticipation of returning home, stating, “After returning to Earth, it is now time to return home. Our appointment is tomorrow… I will see you well at Dar Zayed.”
In another message to his X followers, he reflected on the incredible journey he had undertaken, from five years of rigorous preparations to spending over 180 days in space. His message conveyed a deep sense of gratitude and anticipation as he looked forward to rejoining the UAE.
