Gilgit-Baltistan’s Plea Restore 4G Internet Services
Update The federal government has taken action to restore 4G services in Gilgit-Baltistan’s.
Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) The government of Gilgit-Baltistan’s has formally requested the federal government to reinstate 4G Internet cellular services in the region.
In a letter addressed to the Federal Secretary Interior, the Additional Secretary of Gilgit Baltistan has urged the immediate restoration of Internet services in the greater public interest. The Home Department of Gilgit-Baltistan emphasized in the letter that, thanks to several government interventions, the security situation in the region has returned to a state of normalcy. However, the suspension of internet services has been causing significant difficulties for the general public and individuals engaged in tech-related businesses in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The home department’s letter further stated that, following a comprehensive assessment of the current security situation in Gilgit-Baltistan, the GB government has made the decision to reinstate 4G/5G Internet cellular services in the region. Accordingly, they have requested the Ministry of Interior to liaise with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) for the immediate restoration of these services.
It is worth noting that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority had downgraded Internet services in Gilgit-Baltistan on September 5, 2023, in response to the law and order situation in the region. Consequently, residents have endured a two-week-long internet service outage.
