Tragedy Strikes Morocco Over 1,000 Dead in Devastating Earthquake

After a catastrophic earthquake shook Morocco, scenes of apocalyptic destruction have emerged. Piles of debris litter the landscape, bearing witness to the widespread devastation. The rescue operation is underway, but the toll is grim – with over 1,000 reported dead and more than 1,200 injured.

The Earthquake Strikes

International news agencies report that Morocco has rocked by a devastating earthquake measuring a magnitude of 6.8. The powerful tremors shook buildings to their foundations, burying hundreds under the rubble. Historical landmarks crumbled into heaps of debris. Initial reports indicate a death toll of 1,037, with fears of further casualties. The number of injured has also surpassed 1,200.

Relief Efforts Amid Darkness

In the aftermath of the earthquake, relief operations have commenced in the affected areas. However, the communication infrastructure has severely impacted, plunging regions into darkness due to Widespread power outages. Terrified citizens have forced to spend the night in open spaces and on roads.

Epicenter in the Atlas Mountains

According to the US Geological Survey, the powerful earthquake struck the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, with its epicenter located 75 km southwest of Morocco. The quake occurred at a depth of 18.5 km. Aftershocks continue to rattle the region, further intensifying the crisis.

Neighboring Tremors

The earthquake’s impact extended beyond Morocco’s borders, as tremors were also felt in the neighboring country of Algeria.
