How to Disable Targeted Ad Tracking in Google Chrome

Google has introduced its new Topics API, aiming to enhance privacy by allowing browsers to share user interests with third parties. This move is set to replace the long-standing practice of tracking users through third-party cookies. If you haven’t received this update yet, don’t worry, it’s on its way. In this article, we’ll guide you through the process of disabling this new targeted ad tracking feature in Google Chrome.

Step 1: Access Chrome Settings

  1. Open Google Chrome on your device.

  3. From the menu, select “Settings.”

Step 2: Navigate to Ad Privacy Settings

  1. Within the Settings page, scroll down and find the “Privacy and Security” section.

Step 3: Configure Ad Privacy Settings

In the “Ad privacy” section, you’ll encounter three categories related to ad tracking:

Step 4: Disable Tracking Categories

For each of the three categories mentioned above, you have the option to disable ad tracking. Here’s how:

  2. You can explore the information associated with your interests and the websites Google has linked to you. This is optional if you wish to learn more.
  3. To disable ad tracking for a specific category, simply toggle off the switch associated with that category.

Step 5: Review and Confirm

Repeat the process for all three categories if you wish to disable all forms of ad tracking.

Step 6: You’re Done!
